As TCTGA hosts we were invited
to the pre-fair opening party on theevening of 25th of September.
The Texas Monthly Magazine and the TDA
sponsored the party. It
was a great party. Salt Lick Bar-be-que from Austin provided a fantastic
meal. Several exhibitors provided goodies to
take home. Three of our hosts won in the prize drawing. Southwest Dairy had ice cream with all the fixings for a sunday in a sundae glass we could
keep. The wineries had
wine tasting and a neat wine glass we could keep. There was a exhibitor
who carved watermelons and had samples
of watermelon and watermelon
salsa. Todd Staples, Commissioner of Agriculture, was there to speak and
greet. He greeted me. We talked
briefly about the state of
Christmas Trees. There is a photo of him and me after our conversation,
The hosts of the TCTGA exhibit who were at
the party showed our booth to
other exhibitors. The press were present. All who attended the party said
it was the best they had ever attended at
the fair. I thanked all the
necessary persons.
Dan and I were hosts on the opening day Friday Sept. 26. We were very
busy. Gave away all coloring books and talked to people from Bastrop to
Denton counties. There were
visitors from south, north, east and west Texas counties and from other states.
